Poetic Asides Set, Poem Away French Sonnet

Set Time

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. (Galatians 4:4-5 NIV)

The time was set for virgin birth.
The Lord did favor Mary, so
He sent an angel that she’d know
her Holy Son was of great worth.

It must have been a scandal when
an unwed teen turned up that way.
Elizabeth out loud did say,
“You and your child are blessed,” and then

“The babe inside me leaped with joy.
“You’re blessed believing for that boy.”

And Mary thanked God for her Son,
“God blessed the humble not the proud.
“Great things He’s done and has allowed.”
And so she birthed the Chosen One.

Poem Away douzet, place

Homeplace Memories

I know a little place, St. Clair Township.
It’s near New Florence, P-A. where I grew up.
I loved the trees and hills and buttercups.
Returning home becomes exhausting trip.

In Colorado, skies are always blue.
But there the skies were often gray.
And not a lot to do within a day.
At least, not what most folks would want to do.

Returning home is something we now skip.
But longings to return in time build up.
Fond memories of loved ones there will woo.
But most I knew have died or moved away.

Poem Away Dorsimbra

Pastor Smith
(a dorsimbra)

My Pastor Smith is funny, kind and good.
When he was young, he ministered to teens.
He loved the Lord and served well as he could.
And now an old man, serves by any means.

He wrote two books
entitled “It Had to Be God.”
I skimmed them over,
but was disappointed.

At fourteen years, I met the Lord through Smith.
We teens helped him begin a brand new church.
He briefly mentioned this “our mission,” still,
my Pastor Smith is funny, kind and good.

Poetic Bloomings, repurpose

Versatility

V ersatility describes my giant aluminum bowl.
E ven though, at first, I thought it an odd gift. I
R easoned that it would take up too much room in my
S mall trailer, but I found a place for it under our bed.
A nd soon it was put to good use as a punch bowl,
T he time Hubby and I put on a benefit concert.
I n time, we had a baby that used it for a bathtub.
L ater, as she grew we pulled her around in
I t as a sled on the deep snow on our property.
T oday I use it as it was designed for. At times,
Y ou don’t know what you want until you have it.

Hir a Thoddaid Poetic Asides challenge

Autumn’s Glory

Red and golden leaves and pungent smell.
Time for autumn’s glory I can tell.
Raking crunchy piles of leaves which fell.
Children’s laughter rings clear as a bell,
Jumping in leaves or chasing them in wind.
Until winter begins, all is well.

Poetic Asides Challenge Hir a Thoddaid

Summer Fun

Summer’s here and kids are home from school.
Instead, we’ll head for beach, lake or pool.
Anyplace where we can all get cool.
Apply sunscreen not to be a fool.
Lots of fun—kayak, picnic, hike, and swim.
As we like it—having fun’s the rule.

Poetic Blooming lannet, Poem Away blue

Blue

Azure, bright, tad green, Caribbean scene
Cobalt, striking and bold, old priceless vase
Navy, deep, muted, a US passport
Sapphire, sparkly beauty, September’s gem
Cerulean, bright and light, summer sky
Indigo, moody, broody, ocean night
Baby blue, tender, gentle, heart-throb eyes
Sky blue, everyday Colorado views
Periwinkle, purplish, frail fairy dress
Ice blue, sunny winter crystals alight
Powder blue, soft and smooth, a robin egg
Prussian blue, dull and hushed, summer evening
Cornflower, tinge of purple, hydrangeas
Teal, real helping of green, cool swimming pool

Poetic Asides Hir a Thoddaid Challenge

Spring Morning

Spring has sprung and grass is getting green.
Soon robins and more signs will be seen.
Our morning walks will become routine.
Ice and piles of snow now seem obscene.
The spring rain coaxes tulips from the earth.
So they come while air’s washed fresh and clean.

Poetic Asides Hir a Thoddaid challenge

Wintry Night

Icy snow rests on the window sill.
My thick quilt combats a winter chill.
Weatherman says it will snow until,
we all absolutely have our fill.
I’ll snuggle here, while Christmas lights twinkle,
until night’s quiet comes soft and still.

Poetic Asides picking up

The Old Blue Pickup

He bought a shiny new Chevy pickup,
but I missed the rattle trap blue one.
Something about bouncing along
with the squeak of landing on the seat,
repeatedly, lent a sense of adventure.

But over years, the Chevy’s shine faded
and it bounced, squeaked and rattled,
similar to our relationship and bodies,
picking up a new type of adventure.

Poem Away Cornish sonnet, letter D

Happiness is a Choice

The door to happiness is often closed.
The danger’s thinking that you have no choice.
Yes, joy from circumstance, we’re all disposed.
But dip your toe in joy based on the Lord.
Delight in Him directs you to rejoice,
despite the many things you can’t afford.

You decide how your disposition goes.
Choose whether you defer to circumstance,
or let His love dictate what your face shows.
Is joy derived from just what you possess?
Or does your hope in Him cause you to dance?
On what does your contemplations obsess?

The door to happiness is often closed.

Poem Away caryotte, red

Things that are Red

Things that are red, see
Rings with a ruby
Dresses worn scarlet
Tresses of starlet
Cherries which ripened
Berries, about ten
Cardinals-male ones
Mars fourth from our sun
Blood from some wounds flow
Flood—Colorado
Stop sign on streets end
Top, buy a new trend
Red things are common
Dead tired, won’t go on

Poem Away bragi scenic elfin

The Fairy Gardens

The fairy garden thrives
In lovely Ireland countryside
All kinds of beautiful plants flourish there
You can relax, forgetting stress or care
And look to see where fairies hide
It cheers up many lives

So peek in bushes, barrels, under chairs
A written story is your guide
It’s where childhood revives
And is so worth the drive
Imagination’s not denied
Yes, come and spy some fairies unaware

Poem Away Barbee

Dependency

The rock that I depend on is the Lord
I walk within His loving care each day
He is my hope, my goal, and my reward
I’m His dear child, I’m more than glad to say
When fears consume my thoughts in dead of night
And tears flow freely from my broken heart
As I draw near to Him, the fears take flight
My crying ends because He does His  part
His peace replaces sorrow and distress
Released by faith, the Word and Holy Ghost
My sin He’ll wash away when I confess
I win when I pursue the Lord the most

Poetic Bloomings Art terms

My Life Plein Air

Out in the open air,
I can breathe
and take in the beauty
of God’s design,
His unseen character.

Artists advise squinting
to take in larger features
bringing focus and unity,
then you can add details.

Like Mathew 6:33 says,
strive to put God as King
and learn His way of  living
and then He will meet
your physical needs.

Squint.

Poetic Bloomings Aubade, Poem Away Ark quain

Winter Morning

Sun
Rising
My backyard
Creeps around house

I get in my car
Blindly, I back down the hill
Let the sun do magic till
Ice melts on windshield

Heat up the car
Off I go
Thank you,
Sun

PAD Challenge 30-2

One More Minute

Oh, please, let me sleep just one more minute.
I like my bed. I want to stay in it.
It seems like I’ve slept just a little bit.
Oh, please, let me sleep just one more minute.
I’ve slept thirteen hours, I must admit.
Now, that’s no reason to have a big fit.
Oh, please, let me sleep just one more minute.
I like my bed. I want to stay in it.

PAD Challenge 30-1 One More

One More Christmas Ornament

A blue china Dolphin from Delaware
A Fleur de Lis from Louisiana
Alaskan, Santa riding polar bear
A cute hedgehog from North Carolina

Santa and wife sunning in St. Thomas
From Bar Harbor Maine, a painted lighthouse
A dough-art, hot-air balloon from my sis
My daughter’s first Christmas, a little mouse

From Puerto Rico, mini-manger scene
Bagpiper from Edinburgh, Scotland
From Arizona, a gourd painted green
Silver Christmas wreath from Dublin, Ireland

Ornaments and memories, I adore.
There’s a lot, but always room for one more.

PAD Challenge 29-1 Revised poem

Tomorrow’s Good Enough

I wake up in the morning light
With ambition and drive.
So full of energy and pep,
So glad to be alive.

I make up my to-do list first
And go about gung-ho.
By afternoon, I feel the droop.
Where’s my get-up-and-go?

It’s jetted off to Jamaica.
Goodbye! And off it went!
And so my energy is gone
Before my time is spent.

And so I watch TV or read
Or mess about online.
And then I move the “didn’t dos.”
Tomorrow will be fine.

PAD Challenge 29-2 revised poem

Waiting Out the Storm

At times, my moods are sunny, blue and clear,
But other times they’re stormy, dark and gray.
I wish fine-weather moods would just stay here.
At times, my moods are sunny, blue and clear.
But certainly the storms will reappear.
And then, in time, the clouds will go away.
At times, my moods are sunny, blue and clear,
But other times they’re stormy, dark and gray.

PAD Challenge 29-1 revised poem, Poem Away Petrarchan sonnet

Nature Teaches
Sweet, fragrant lilacs, freshness after rain
The earthy odor of crushed leaves of fall
Tall pines singing their evocative call
Soft gurgling, bubbling creeks that soothe the brain
Loud cricket choir’s persistent refrain
Bold, valiant mountains, the great ocean’s sprawl
Tart, juicy pineapples delighting all
Tremendous power of a hurricane

It says in Romans One, the Lord declares
His endless power, divine qualities
And unseen traits through His created things
His gentleness, compassion, strength and care
His majesty, beauty and dignities.
By loving nature, I learn to love my King..

PAD Challenge 28-3 mood, Poem Away sestet

Love is Patient

She greeted Grandma with a grin
And squealed and raced about within
She tore her dress and scraped her shin
Without a doubt
Her grandma’s patience getting thin
But love won out

PAD Challenge 28-2 Mood, Poem Away sestet

Setting the Mood

He set the mood with candlelight
With music playing soft and bright.
The steak he cooked had come out right.
Where was she now?
Oh, there sat his unsent invite!
He had a cow.

PAD Challenge 28-1 Mood, poem away sestet

I Need Your Smile

I hope you do not think I’m rude
But, dear, you’re in a grumpy mood
Please, get your thoughts out of the dirt
It’s been awhile
I’m sorry if you have been hurt
I need your smile

PAD Challenge 27-2 shaky/sturdy

Sifted

Sometimes
I feel like flour
going through
an old-fashioned flour sifter.

Shaken
Shaken
Shaken
Shaken

Till the lumps are all out
and left smooth
and ready to be used
in a life-sustaining recipe.
