PAD Challenge 27-1 shaky/sturdy

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe (Hebrews 12:28 NIV).

The World Quivers
The world quivers like a stray cat
Out in cold rain like a drowned rat
But the Kingdom of God stands strong
Through thick and thin, through short and long
His Spirit rises like rivers
The world quivers

The world shakes under heavy loads
Confusion lies on many roads
Worship Him in reverence and awe
We live by grace and not by law
The world quivers

PAD Challenge 26-3 ambition

Puzzled

I almost gave up
on the castle puzzle
I bought in Ireland.
The pieces were too close
in shape and size
and they fit sometimes
when they weren’t meant to.

But this year,
I  have been using jig-saw puzzles
as inspiration to put my life
back together after experiencing
significant losses.
So with determination
I stuck with it.

It wasn’t easy, but nearly done.
With the same resolve,
I’m not giving up on my life
though at times
it seems as scattered
as the 1,000 piece
castle jig-saw puzzle.

PAD challenge 26-2 ambition

Dissipating Ambition

In the morning,
I’m full of ambition.
Make long to-do list
and go gung-ho.

But in the afternoon,
tasks lose importance.
My get-up-and-go
jets off to Jamaica.

And I highlight
all the didn’t-dos
and slide them down
to the next day.

PAD Challenge 26-1 ambition, Poem Away Serena

My Hope and My Aim

Jesus, my hope
And my aim
Determination and fire
I’ll get up and go for Him
He’s my delight and desire
Purpose for which to aspire
He provides my goals and dreams
Motivates with loving themes
Jesus my hope
And my aim
By His Spirit

PAD Challenge 25-3 title from previous poem

Isolated

Narrow road
Rustic outbuildings
Shady trees
Muffled sounds
Look to rent old rambling house
Gave us the creeps. Next.

PAD Challenge 25-2 title from previous poem

Masterful Artist

Like an artist
can turn a blob of blue
into a bouquet of beautiful flowers
and call it a “happy accident,”
God can take our messes
and turn them into something good
and call them Roman 8:28s.

PAD Challenge 25-1 title from previous poem, Poetic Bloomings light

We All Can Use A Little Light

A compliment when feeling down
A kiss to make up from a fight
Fond memories between good friends
We all can use a little light

A card when it seems no one cares
Some cake when plans don’t come out right
Direction when the way’s not clear
We all can use a little light

A verse reminding of God’s love
A gift when finances are tight
A song of comfort during grief
We all can use a little light

PAD Challenge 24-3 Salty

The Great Salt Lake

Driving over the long straight causeway
to Antelope State Park in Utah
I felt like I was entering another world.

A parched, salty world
where only brine shrimp
and various birds live.

There is a stillness,
a hush about the place.
Isolated.

The expansive Great Salt Lake

Where you can bob around
on the salty water
like a fishing float.

PAD Challenge 24-2 salty

Salty Pretzels

I love salty-pretzel munching
And dipping them in melted cheese
I am content in my crunching
I love salty-pretzel munching
Good for snacking and for lunching
Now, pass the cheese and pretzels please
I love salty-pretzel munching
And dipping them in melted cheese

PAD Challenge 24-1 Salty, Poem Away sapphic stanza

Useless Salt
(Sapphic stanza)

Salt has many uses: flavoring, making thirsty
guarding feet from slipping. Jesus said salt that lost its
flavor’s good for nothing, thrown away under foot, but I
understand He gives

second chances generously to those who ask Him,
adding lovely colors unto salt which lost flavor,
using colored salt for beautiful sand-like paintings.
Masterful Artist.

PAD Challenge 23-3 i Can't, Poetic Bloomings wrapped refrain

I Can’t Resist

I can’t resist no-bake cookies.
People would wonder, who took these?
Even if there’s more than twenty.
I cannot stop, I’ll eat plenty.
Those chocolate oatmeal lumps, peanut butter kissed,
I won’t make them anymore, since I can’t resist.

I can’t say no to travel plans,
by trains, planes, cruise ships, cars or vans.
I’m ready to go, just say when.
If I’ve been there, I’ll go again.
I feel alive and adventurous on the go.
So when it comes to vacation, I can’t say no.

I just can’t watch one TV show.
I watch, before to bed I go.
Sometimes I stay up way too late.
Then not get up till half past eight.
I try to practice self-control, but bound to botch.
So if the shows are much too good, I just can’t watch.

PAD Challenge 23-2 I Can't, Poem Away metal, O, things sapphic ode sonnet

I Can’t Not Have Fun

The common shoe is plain and drear
Some occupations are that, too
The silver lining may be near
I’ll make it through

Those who omit some fun each day
Get bogged in tasks and almost stop
Like a gold ring hidden away
Like wasted crop

Some days are boring as they come
At times I wish for so much more
Like breaking through titanium
A stubborn door

I’ll look for a window in sight
We all can use a little light

PAD Challenge 23-1 I Can't

I go forth with purpose so clear
And stride to a room that is near
Then I look about
And ponder and pout
Can’t remember why I am here

PAD Challenge 22-3 Praise

God’s Glory

God’s glory echoes through the earth
His presence casts a lovely scent
In Him, we all can be content
He is the warmth in home and hearth

Immeasurable in His worth
So time with Him is time well spent
God’s glory echoes through the earth
He’s mighty and magnificent

In Him, my heart is full of mirth
His love adheres like strong cement
In praising Him, I won’t relent
His love’s revealed in His Son’s birth
God’s glory echoes through the earth

In Praise to My God

You are worthy of my love.

King of kings and Lord of lords

PAD Challenge 21-3 Protest, rhopalic

Rhopalic Protestation

I protest rhopalic
verse. Counting syllables obsessively
can incite craziness, insanity.
The poet calculates
like loony, obsessive, out-of-control mathematicians.
Makes dreaded sestinas
look truly inviting.

Poem Away rhopalic green

Green

Green portrays existence abundantly, photographically
Plants flourish, offering necessary apparatuses
When painting imagine respirations
Green living vibrantly
On paper

PAD Challenge 20-2 love, Poem Away Ode

What is Love?

I wonder, what is love with all its songs?
Empowered by strong, yearning muse?
To right some wrongs?
Long, mushy sentimental views?
Belaboring for what a poor man longs?
There’s lots of definitions, not just one.
A thing you do or feel?
A dream or real?
Just give me love that drove our God to send His Son.

PAD Challenge 20-1 love

Love Expressed

Romans 1:20 says God expressed
His divine nature, eternal power
and invisible qualities in nature.

So when I enjoy the fragrance
of lilacs, freshness after spring rain,
crushed leaves of autumn.

Delight in bubbling creeks,
tall pines singing in wind,
cricket choirs on summer nights.

Appreciate towering mountains,
bright symmetry of  flowers,
orange sunrise over an ocean.

Welcome warmth of spring rain
softness of cute kittens,
energizing coldness of winter.

Savor sweetness of juicy grapes
tartness of Jonathan apples
tanginess of grapefruits and oranges.

I’m saying to God, “I love You back!”

PAD challenge 19-3 wordle

Telemarketer

She received a call from a conman.
So figuring she had a captive audience,
she expounded on her toxic relationships
and all who rubbed her the wrong way,
until he sighed and simply hung up.

PAD Challenge 19-2 wordle

Incompatible Match

Together they were an oxymoron,
incongruous, completely opposite.
Some say their relationship was toxic.
But their love flushed out any toxins
and their strengths and weaknesses
worked together like vinegar and oil
to make a tasty and healthful life salad.

PAD Challenge 19-1 Wordle

Fred the Cat

Fred conned his way into our hearts.
A big fluffy gray cat that as he’d pass,
he’d rub against us with a very-well
pronounced MEOW!

This cat had wit, quirks and smarts
and he walked with lots of class.
At getting his own way, he did excel.
We loved him. And how!

Playing my teddy bear was his part.
And he’d hop in the tub and take a bath.
Once got in ointment, had a bad smell.
Oh, I miss him now!

PAD Challenge 18-3 toy, Poem Away Luc Bat

Baby Dolls

One great Christmas surprise
Was a doll with brown eyes, like mine.
With short white hair so fine.
Was great for someone nine or so.
And she wore calico.
Wherever I would go, she came.
I gave her a good name.
Debbie, like the cake fame, so true.
My sis got a doll, too,
With eyes of sparkling blue, like hers.
With hair as soft as furs.
Patty-name Sis prefers, like Duke.
The eyes were not a fluke.
Chose by Mom not a kook. So wise.

PAD Challenge 18-2 toy, Poetic Bloomings 10-word wordle

Singing Turkey

Our child-like man that once lived with us
had a huge toybox full of toys, mostly noisy.
One toy he rarely played with was a singing turkey
that had quit singing long ago. He seemed to know
when to bring it out, though. Maybe it was talk of
a Thanksgiving feast with ham, stuffing, gravy,
and cranberry sauce with his family that inspired him
or the sounds of football games, parades or commercials.
But he would play with it during the holiday season,
this big old awkward looking turkey that didn’t sing.
This Thanksgiving, I’m going to miss that turkey.

PAD Challenge 18-1 toy

Horsey Sam

Spring rocking horse named Horsey Sam
I got when I was three
He rocked and squeaked and jounced and bounced
I rode so jauntily

And then my sister came along
And we rode him double
Then she kept Sam for quite a while
Till size became trouble

She passed him to my nephew Tom
He galloped ‘cross the range
My daughter then came next in line
So Horsey made the change

Passed Horsey Sam on to my son
And for a time he rode
And when he grew too big for Sam
Two nieces took him home

Through several kids and fifty years
At  last I got Sam back
But he no longer has his springs
And makes a fine hat rack

PAD Challenge 17-1 broken

In the Garden

In the garden, the bond was broken
between God and His creation.
In the garden, the Lord prayed
which led to our salvation.

In the garden, I hear His voice.
The bond remains intact.
In the garden, hand in hand,
due to His selfless act.
