Alaska 19

The Atlas

Red vein-like highways
Yellow splotches of cities
Green blotches of national
parks marked with tents
Blue almost-straight interstates
Light blue blots of lakes
and snakes of rivers
On the end table teasing
and tempting me
Open to pages 14 & 15

The Malamute

Says Malamute a fine woo woo to me and you, waves plumed tail.
Likes work and play, pulls sleds all day, likes us to stay, he’ll treat us well.
A wolf-like face, with strength and grace, will keep the pace and eat a lot.
He’ll dig a hole, he likes it cold, he’s big and bold, just watch the pot.

Alaska 17

Contentment

A silent soul sat atop a hill
underneath a silky blue sky
soaking in serenity and grandeur.
White wispy clouds wandered
over fields of yellow clover.

Alaska 15

Like an Ant

Piney shore sheltering bay
Magnificent mountains
stand watch over all
Clouds hover

Little yellow rubber raft
drifting along with whales
and God knows what else
underneath

Alaska 14

Somewhere

A rainbow
Not Kansas but Alaska
Not the yellow brick road
But long golden grasses in the morning sun

Not Dorothy
But an ambling Grizzly bear
Not a fantasy land
On second thought…

Alaska 13

The Invitation

Two lovers meet
atop a knoll.
A mystical land of glaciers
spreads out before them
in whites, grays and silver blues,
like their future
stretching toward the unknown,
daring them to add color
to a monochromatic world.
