9/30 PAD Challenge When he's gone

When He’s Gone

My time is not for me alone
I am on call from dawn to dawn
Relentlessly I care for him
Yet, I will miss him when he’s gone

Contributes little in this life
His words are few, the day is long
At times my patience wears so thin
Yet, I will miss him when he’s gone

His smile can warm the coldest heart
His hugs and kisses can go on
And his delight becomes my own
Yes, I will miss him when he’s gone

PAD Challenge 8/30 response to dead poet

“Let us then be up and doing.”  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, A Psalm of Life

A Psalm of Flu

Let us then be up and doing
Sorry Henry not today
I’m so sick I feel like dying
So it’s in my bed I’ll stay.

PAD Challenge 7/30 Circle

Isolation Circle

Through years of Bible, though this may sound odd,
I can see clearly how to tick off God.
When you think of sin, if you do at all,
You may think of pride, Adam and the fall.

Or lust, greed, laziness, wrath, gluttony,
 Hate, disrespect, Sabbath breaking, envy,
Thievery, blasphemy, adultery,
Dishonesty, murder, idolatry.

Or you may think self-centeredness is chief.
You may get close with doubt and unbelief.
Or not doing all the things you should do,
Reaching out to less fortunate than you.

To grieve God’s heart, draw a circle about
you and all you love, and leave Jesus out.

PAD challenge 6/30 right and left

Philippe Petit

It was illegal
But he had do to it
He was born to

He alone was able
No one else could do it
There was no why

They snuck up
Strung a cable to the other tower
Using a bow, line and arrow

That August morning
People stared up, eyes wide
Mouths agape

The trick
Not to go the right or left
And he did it

But he was arrested
Police report simply said
Man on wire

His punishment
To perform for children
Then he was free

PAD Challenge 4/30 Just Beneath the ... and Poetic Bloomings Life event

Just Beneath the Excitement

and the anticipation
of seeing friends or relatives,
or visiting a first-for-you place
or having new adventures
lies frustration that air travel is no longer fun

as you take off your shoes,
go through long lines,
sort your cell phone, change and keys,
carry-ons, wallets or purses
in plastic bowls and tubs,
and stand in an electronic archway
while guards stare
and wave wands over your body.

Just beneath the surface of joy lies fear
that the world is no longer a safe place,
that an unescorted bag could be a bomb
and anything could happen
since the towers disintegrated before our eyes.

PAD Challenge 3/30 Scary

Grounded

He’s big and bold.
His calf muscles bulge
as he climbs the mountain.
He looks back
with kind eyes
melding into mine.
His strong arm stretches
as he reaches for my hand.
I shrink back.
I stay where I’m at.
Grounded.
