Teasing
They called her Baby Huey
and quacked at her.
She’d come home from school,
crying. Her highschool years,
a misery.
They called her sister
Baby Huey
and quacked at her.
At first she shied away
like her older sister,
but then, epiphany—
“They’re the weird ones,
not me.”
She met their stares evenly
and spoke to them with civility.
Eventually they forgot to quack.
Self-respect acted as a shield.
