Latter Years of Marriage
The fog descends before the midnight hour
Hours tick a way and she wishes for bed
Bed would bring welcome relief
Relief from the stuffed cotton in her head
And she longs for a peaceful sleep
Sleep that refreshes and restores
Restores new hopes and dreams
Dreams don’t come with snores
So CPAP is strapped to her face
Face the prospect of restless nights
Nights in lonely, separate rooms
Rooms comfortable with no lights
But the situation has its perks
Perks of not having to share
Share many things but not space
Space, now that there is room to spare
It’s a new life since the kids are gone
Gone to another state and on their own
Own up to tasks left to complete
Complete and fulfilled in her home
