Poetic Bloomings Puzzel Pieces Prompt

Helen’s Boast

HELEN sits at her desk

DRAWING ink landscapes.

Her eyes a PURE PERIWINKLE blue

sparkle as we beg her

to tell us the story.

Helen always began

with a LAUGH and this BOAST,

“The hail was big as BRUSSEL SPROUTS

as I pedaled my BICYCLE down SHANNON CREEK ROAD

about SEVEN on a summer evening in 1977.

“I knew the gray clouds,

dark, mean and low,

could bring a storm as bad

as any of the ones which caused

the other two JOHNSTOWN FLOODS.

 “My muscles moved strong

and rhythmic like a PANTHER,

racing against the storm.

The ice balls pummeled me,

then came the hammering rain.

“My friends JENNIFER and SYDNEY

built their cabin unwittingly

in the lowlands by the river.

Halfway there I had to abandon my bike

and run along the flooded road.

“I made it to the cabin as the water

reached their porch step.

I banged on the door.

They came out wondering

if I had gone mad.

“We fled in their Chevy.

Eighty-six lives were lost that night.

But not eighty-eight.

Your grandparents made it.”

“Thanks!” we say and run off to play.

Couplets/sonnet

In Jesus

The case I aim to soon present to You
is weak at best, You know full well that’s true.
I have no leg to stand on at Your throne,
but I don’t stand here on my very own.
The one You sent and love is here with me.
I know that what He’s done will set me free.
Though hidden in my sin and humbling shame,
I’m standing here in Your Son’s precious name.
You hear my every prayer attentively.
Forgiveness I so passionately seek
is mine upon confessing what I’ve done.
To You my Father I will gladly run.
Without You I remain in my own sin.
You are my hope that I will surely win.

BD prompt

Painting by Betty Slade

“Let there be light,” God said,
making future artists happy.
Color was born.
And all the floral paintings
lifted their petals in praise.

Poetic Asides Child's Play

Versatile

A fun ride down a grassy hill.
A new lemonade stand in June.
A spaceship which can reach the moon.
An ice igloo, where you feel the chill.
And a hospital, have a pill!
An iron cage for a big baboon.

A quaint soda and ice cream stand.
Hidden headquarters for a spy.
A jet plane flying fast and high.
The right place for a country band.
A camp tent, undiscovered land.
Cozy home where your babies cry.
And a port where a cruise ship docks.
All of this from a cardboard box

Poetic Bloomings Hex Sonnetta

Marriage Glue
When marriages grow stale
The heart turns dull and bleak
The spirit’s rendered weak
Begins to taste of hell
Temptation rings a bell
The bored begin to seek

Some struggle with their will
They try to do things right
Put up a fervent fight
But tire in their zeal
Reduced to what they feel
Go off into the night

God’s goodness is the glue
That makes one of the two

swap quatrain

Two Crickets

Two crickets chirped into the night
I tried to sleep with all my might
My efforts rudely were usurped
Into the night two crickets chirped

Baker's Dozen prompt scenery

The Mountain

Around a curve a mountain sat
A curtain blocking out the sky
Stark gray

Green tint upon a closer look
Houses huddled on the hillside
Lonesome

In the foreground lacy green trees
march up gravelly embankment.
Cheery

Baby blue sky peeks over top
Wisps of white crest like frothy waves
Pristine

Last spring snow clings to crevices
White icing dribbled on bundt cake
Pleasing

Slate and copper mark the mountain
Looking bold and brave, and daunting
Ageless

So much beauty saddens the soul
I hop into the car, drive home
Regrets

But the valley holds warmth and peace
Safety and bustle of living
Friendship
