Interlocking Rubaiyat, aaba/bbcb/ccdc, iambic tetrameter or pentameter

Vacation Ending

Our stuff is scattered ‘round their house
From toys to books, from shoes to blouse
We’re at our daughter’s and our son’s
Vacationing with kids and spouse

We so enjoyed all types of funs
Ate hamburgers along with buns
Played games, watched movies, talked a bit
We often feel like lucky ones

We’d like to just relax and sit
We’ll have to pack up all of it
Then head on home toward normal life
And leave behind what doesn’t fit

It was Me

Speeding on the Jet ski
but all were speeding faster.
Cautious and careful
to avoid disaster.
Remembering a cousin
who met an awful fate.
So I poked along
and made the whole ship late.

Rush and Wait

Rush to leave
the hotel before dark.
Wait at the counter
at the airport
since the baggage sticker
didn’t come up.
Rush through the pre-check
wait as daughter
goes through the regular line.
Rush to find the gait
wait to get on a plane.

Hunger

has a way
of causing
you to forget
about budget
diet, and health.
Pizza, salad,
cannoli, fruit drink
all sounds too good,
until we leave
the leftovers
in the fridge
for a maid to find.

Grinning in Florida
Walking in warm January rain
Trying not to think of Colorado snow.

Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands

After exploring Coral Park
with its observation tower,
Lori’s ocean walk,
iguanas and sea turtles,
and purchasing obligatory
fridge magnets and post cards,
we came upon a beautiful beach
with just enough time
to stand in the water
and get soaked by the waves.
We reluctantly shuttled to the ship
on the left side of the road.
