In Passing
She jogged past the elderly couple every day.
She’d often nod her head, smile and wave.
But one day, as the sun set she was sad to see
the woman, alone, in obvious misery.
The jogger, compelled, sat by the woman’s side.
The gray-haired lady leaned into her side and cried.
After that, the jogger saw her no more, until one day
when she saw the woman and some children at play.
The widow smiled and waved and came over to her there.
She said, “Thank you for being one to care.
The jogger said, “I’m glad to see you smiling again.”
The woman said, “I keep his memory any way I can.
I tell these children stories of the things my David did,
and now I can see him in each and every kid.”
