Every Moment

A grain of sand

In an hourglass

Sinking, shifting, moving

Meeting new grains of sand

A feather

Caught up and carried by the wind

Drifting along

Various elevations and clime

A leaf

Rushing along in the current

Past rocks, trees and dying leaves

New scenery at every bend

Little choices

Imperceptible, perpetual movement

Feeling like nothing has changed

But yet, everything has

Every moment

The cloud of smoke perched on the mountain

like an innocent squirrel looking for a nut,

while the fire on the far side consumed acres.

Our lives here on earth,

like reflections on a clear mountain lake,

may be beautiful, but not the real thing.

The bare rocky mountain glowed yellow, orange, browns,

basking in the sun like a giant prehistoric lizard,

while pines slipped into the darkness like fleeing prey.
