 Ah, the Dilemma

 

I went to a poetry website,

and commented on word paintings.

While I’m at it,

I may as well write a poem.

 

But, ah, the dilemma—

how to combine ideas all around me

and even not around me

into a lovely poem.

 

“Think of a metaphor,” webmaster advised.

So, here I am searching for treasure,

without a map, without a shovel

or even dirt to dig through.

 

What treasure is it that I seek?

A sparkling jewel of rhyme and rhythm

Costly gems of emotion and hope

Golden coins of delightful imagery

 

Well, maybe I didn’t find a great treasure,

but I wrote a poem.
