The Bop

Vitrectomy

So I was on my way home from Breckenridge

Where I had attended training for a nature center.

Driving home something like a fat, black worm

Started coming down from the top left corner of my eye.

I had been warned this might happen.

My retina was detaching and it was the weekend.

Four days later I had surgery on my left eye.

I was told that they had put an oil bubble in,

And it would have to be removed later.

My vision was bad in that eye, but I could see a bit.

Driving was a trick, at times I saw double.

As I waited for the second eye surgery,

the pain, itching, watering cleared up.

Four months later, the bubble was removed.

I didn’t expect it to be as bad as the first.

It was like looking through a shower door.

I could see light and shadows in that eye.

The whole left side of my face hurt.

Thoughts assailed, What if it doesn’t get better?

Ten days in, seeing more movement gives me hope.
