River of Stones # 31

The last rain made me
think of the Egyptian Plagues
There's a reason why it's called Colorado.

River of Stones # 30

The early October snow
came down in a sprinkling
as if God lightly salted the earth.

Décor

You can decorate
with color coordinated
rugs, drapes and furniture.
Accent with pillows,
paintings and knick-knacks.
But nothing
goes with everything
like a calico cat!

River of Stones #27

The Boulder

Flat, round, black on top
Thinner on one side
Like a lopsided, burnt canned biscuit

River of Stones #24 Poetic Blooming Prompt :Goals

I aspire to lofty heights
and devote much time to doing it right
and along the way having some fun,
but greater by far is getting things done.

River of Stones #21

The water—the silver plate
The rocks—the layered cake
The thin tree trunks—the birthday candles
The leaves—the flames
The wind—the birthday wish

River of Stones #19

                            The lake
                                             clouds
                                                          hills
                                                                   mountains
                                                                                        stretched out
                                                                                                          as if cities, traffic,
                                                                                                          highrise appartments
                                                                                                          didn’t exist.

River of Stones # 18

Though your scenery
may be flat and brown,
sky gray,
trees scraggly,
road dirt,
delight in rainbows.

River of Stones # 17

mrsthordarson.edublogs.org

Like gargantuan gray yams,
tapered to a paddle-shaped tail
two flippers in front,
snout that looks like it ran into a battleship
eyes like two deep holes
a mouth formed in frown,
as if they were once princes and princesses
cursed to drift about underwater
as Manatees.

River of Stones #16

Like golden coins
cast carelessly
from a rich man’s pocket,
the aspen leaves
lay scattered on the street.

River of Stones # 15

The evening sun
poked a hole in the clouds
as if the sky was hungry
and ready to gobble up
pines, bay and rocky shore.

River of Stones # 14

The red rocks rumbled
down the hill
like young buffalo
only to find
a dry riverbed.

River of Stones #13

On my back, basking in sun
Whooshing sounds increase and wane
Imagining beach, but home
Traffic rushing by

Watercolors

The rocks cry out in praise,
amazed at the beauty and hues
God makes from raindrops.

River of Stones # 11

Without their leaves, the trees felt naked
So God clothed them in white lace

River of Stones # 9

Say Cheese

Like a grade-school class picture
the tall mountains stood in back,
next the medium-size sand hills,
then the average pines
with the pipsqueaks bushes  in front.
And like prim and proper teachers,
tall trees stood on each side.

Stacked kayaks bunk on shore
Yacht yawns in the harbor
Ocean beckons

River of Stones #7 also a Seocks--376543

Two Trees

Companions
Like an old married couple
Side by side, limb to limb
Thick in the middle
Gaze at mountains,
Lake and clouds.

River of Stones #6 Also Poetic Aside's prompt--group's point of view

Why take swings at us?
Pick on your own size!
We only want a little,
you have ten pints!
                                  --Mosquitoes

These people aren't wearing coats from the cold, but because of mosquitoes.

River of Stones #5

The rocks jutted up from the desert floor
into the storm clouds
like a castle in a vampire movie.

River of Stones #4

The sun rested on the mountain
and glared at its reflection in the lake,
like two angels meeting.

River of Stones #2

Under the Bridge

A world awaits
under the bridge.
Crawdads hide,
water spiders hurry,
minnows scurry
under the bridge.
Toes tickle,
sticks prickle,
rocks tumble,
car tires rumble
under the bridge.
Revision:
In the world under the bridge
crawdad homemakers scurry to their rock homes,
skinny water spider teenagers zip along,
minnow businessmen bustle about,
dragonfly helicopters buzz above
and thunder rumbles from the cars overhead.

Lovely luscious grasses
Mixed in greens, umbers, burgundy
A flavorful salad for the eyes
