Newton, My Hamster
Lived in a terrarium—
a big clear plastic ball
open on top,
white plastic base.
I put in cedar chips,
a water bottle,
a food dish,
a Pringles can to sleep
in.
Being nocturnal,
he’d make a racket at
night,
scooting round and round
with his little paws
going.
I gave him hamster
treats
about as big as tater
tots.
He’d put one in each
cheek pouch,
then unable to fit in
his Pringles can.
