I

Insult to Injury

“This added insult to injury,”
the carpenter said
after he fell through
my bathroom floor.

He had already hurt his shoulder,
getting stuck in a river while hunting.
Messed up his knee while kneeling
to install my hot-water heater.

Caught the flu from his wife.
“Please heal him,”
I prayed inwardly and selfishly,
“so he can finish fixing my house!”

I hope we haven’t bitten off
more than we can chew.
