Poetic Asides/ Poetic Bloomings 16-1 City

 City Jumble

I recently put a jigsaw puzzle together

of New York City’s Times Square—

edge to edge sky scrapers, billboards,

scurrying people, creeping cars and taxies,

traffic lights, signs, various flags

and two scrawny trees bravely holding

their ground, what little they had.

I put the puzzle away, glad,

that was the only city scene

I had to look at. I get to look at

small town Colorado with modest houses,

mountains, mesas, open spaces,

aspens, cedars and junipers

and the blue, blue, Colorado blue sky.
