Singing Turkey
Our child-like man that once lived with us
had a huge toybox full of toys, mostly noisy.
One toy he rarely played with was a singing
turkey
that had quit singing long ago. He seemed to
know
when to bring it out, though. Maybe it was talk
of
a Thanksgiving feast with ham, stuffing, gravy,
and cranberry sauce with his family that
inspired him
or the sounds of football games, parades or commercials.
But he would play with it during the holiday
season,
this big old awkward looking turkey that didn’t
sing.
This Thanksgiving, I’m going to miss that turkey.
